St. Agnes

Get to know the life of St. Agnes. She was born around the year 290. She received a very good Christian education and consecrated herself to Christ through a vow of virginity. She was 13 when the son of the Roman Prefect fell in love with her and asked her to marry him. She replied, "I have been sought by another Lover. I love Christ. I will be the bride of Him whose Mother is Virgin. I will love Him and remain chaste." Scorned, the boy appealed to his father. Flattery and threats were of no use to bend the iron will of young Agnes, who was denounced as a Christian. She died a martyr in Rome in the second half of the third century or, more probably, at the beginning of the fourth.
